Students will learn the fundamentals of using a web browser to find
information quickly and to evaluate search results for relevance,
accuracy and quality.
Students will use the internet to locate facts and data for regular
classroom assignments, to find current information in the news,
lookup weather forecasts, find products, prices, reviews, directions
and more.
Students will learn to use the basic elements of the Microsoft
Internet Explorer web browser including the main browser window,
title bar, menu bar, main explorer toolbar and address bar.
Main Browser Window - Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer Title Bar
The Title Bar at the very top of the main browser window tells you
what the title of the page you are viewing is. The Title Bar also
tells you what Internet Explorer application is currently active. In
this case, the title bar indicates that we are viewing the MSN.com
website.
Internet Explorer Menu Bar
The main menu bar has many different menus which control all
options, functions, and commands for the Internet Explorer browser.
Students explore these and learn to use the "Favorites" function to
bookmark web sites for quick access during research.
Internet Explorer Main Tool
Bar
During our research activities we will use the many functions
available on this toolbar including the forward and back buttons,
stop, refresh, home, search, favorites, history and print buttons.
Internet Explorer Address Bar
The address bar indicates a particular site's location or "address"
on the internet. We discuss the use of the address bar and the
importance of precise spelling, exact syntax and correct domain
names to achieve desired results. For example, addresses such as Castlebaylane.com, Castlebaylane.net and Castlebaylane.edu may not
be owned and operated by the same group and can affect search
results significantly.
