Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council Spring of 2009 the Porter
Ranch Neighborhood Council voted to fund a new copier
with $4,000 for Castlebay.
Lowe's
Donates Mailbox
Thanks to concerned father and community activist, Mike
Dobry, we now have a new locking mailbox donated by
Lowe's. This replaces an old box that looked like it had
been hit by a car and was missing the door, allowing
mail to blow around the neighborhood in the wind.
LAUSD Board Member Tamar Galatzan Reads to
Castlebay On
Tuesday, March 10, 2009, LAUSD Board Member Tamar Galatzan
read to third graders as part of the Read Across America
Literacy Week Program. She read Demi's "One Grain of
Rice" because it relates to the current unit on money.
Castlebay Benefits from Microsoft Settlement
As a result of a Microsoft Settlement, LAUSD schools are
receiving about $20-24 per student in computer
equipment. Principal Vivian Ihori has ordered 15
document reader / LCD projectors for Castlebay in
January 2009. There will be one unit in each third,
fourth and fifth grade classroom. Four units will be
shared by second and third grades. Three units will be
shared by kindergarten and first grades. The units will
enable teachers to project a printed document onto a
screen, much like an overhead projector did.
2008 Laptops from PRNC
In 2008 the Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council
purchased 6 laptops and projectors, one for each grade;
$5,000.
2007 TVs from PRNC The Porter Ranch
Neighborhood Council purchased TVs w/DVD/VCR
players for each classroom: $6,000.
2007 DLP Projector from PRNC
The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council generously donated
a DLP projector for the school to use to make group
presentations primarily in the multi purpose room and
the library.

Distinguished School Award - April 2006
Castlebay was one of 32 school in LAUSD to earn the
California Distinguished School Award. This award allows
the State of California to recognize schools across the
state for their educational programs that include high
expectations for all its students, implementation of
state-adopted standards and collaborative leadership.

2006 PRNC Provides 36 New CPUs for Computer Lab
The Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council generously used
$25,000 of it $50,000 annual budget to buy all new CPUs
for the computer lab.
Members of PATH, the PRNC Education Committee and the
school celebrate the arrival of the new computers.
